Producer Sean Keys took a brief clip of a song Danielle Stephens recorded on her cell phone and transformed it into the uplifting track “Favor.” This bubbly tribute to God’s grace comes from Louisiana native Stephens, whose voice radiates joy and gratitude, perfectly complemented by a vibrant arrangement. With an MBA, a doctorate in progress, a position at IBM, and an emerging music ministry, Stephens has much to appreciate. Yet, she emphasizes that it was only when she surrendered to God’s plan that everything began to fall into place.
The phrase “favor ain’t fair” originates from a sermon by Bishop T. D. Jakes, which has sparked some debate. The emphasis isn’t on a random bestowal of favor by God; as Jakes explains, “God gives you provisions for purpose. Everything you’ve got—your talent, your ability to sing, your charisma, your intelligence, your financial smarts—none of it is coincidental. God bestowed these gifts upon you for His divine purpose.” Danielle Stephens collaborated with Shanzel Willis and Adolphus Scott to write “Favor.”
